OUGD502 - PPP2: Studio Brief 3: Life's A Pitch (Presentation Evaluation)

As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed working with my group on this brief. I think we all found it hard to manage our time, especially as we were given the brief a week before the Easter holidays and so we had all planned to go our separate ways for three weeks. This meant that we had to contact each other via Facebook and text messages. This isn't ideal but it gave me an insight into what a project may be like when working with someone overseas and having to rely on technology to get the work completed as opposed to a face to face meeting. I think that initially we all felt a bit overwhelmed with all of the facts and figures and all of the legalities connected to setting up a new business. This may have set us back a bit in terms of time management. Luckily, over the Easter holidays I was able to ask my boyfriend, who is currently setting up his own VFX studio, all of the details about setting up. He told me then that there is a lot involved and that even he was finding it all quite daunting to start with. As none of us have had much experience with setting our business up and working for ourselves, it wasn't really second nature to us. This meant that we all had to do our own individual research to find out more about our research topics.

I found it interesting once I had engaged with the research and had a think about the branding of our business. I also found that because there were 5 of us, this meant that we were able to distribute jobs and the work seemed a lot less daunting. Overall, I am really pleased with the outcome of our presentation. I think it went smoothly on the day and I particularly loved our use of quotes on each individual slide, as I am personally a very philosophical person and so this meant quite a lot to me. If I was to do anything differently next time, I would perhaps work with a group of people who all love the same kind of design as me. I loved the variety among us all, the editorial, web and packaging design. However, I think if we had been able to create a very specialised business it would have allowed each one of us to feel a bit more excited about the project, rather than have to spend a fifth of the time thinking about our own specialism and the rest of the time considering everyone else's.
